Does your group work with children, young people or vulnerable adults?
If the answer is ‘yes', then you probably need to undertake DBS checks on your volunteers and paid members of staff.
Birmingham Youth Empowerment Project acts as an Umbrella Body for the Disclosure and Barring Service and can offer this service to your group or organisation.
What is a Disclosure?
A Disclosure is a document containing information held by the Police and Government Departments. The document can be used by Employers and Voluntary Organisations to make safer recruitment decisions. The Disclosure forms are checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service who are an executive agency for the Home Office.
Who should be checked?
When going through the recruitment procedure, consideration should be made as to whether a disclosure is required. For groups working with children and young people all volunteers, committee members and paid staff should have an up-to-date DBS check. For groups working with vulnerable adults all volunteers, committee members and paid staff should also have an enhanced DBS check.
DBS Checks cost £18for volunteers and £62 for Enhanced and£44 Standard . We can also advise you on safeguarding policies and practice. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 0121 622 6394 for more information.
If you want to continue with the DBS Checks, please follow the link to DBS Application form. A member of staff will be in contact shortly to set up time and date for you to bring your evidence and payment.
